Thigh lift
Thigh lift is called the plastic surgery performed to cope with the relaxation on the inside of the thighs resulting from sedentary, pregnancy, aging and obesity.
Thigh lift: overview of the area
There is a large amount of fat in this area. The skin on the inner side is thinner and the amount of collagen it contains is very small. As a result, it relaxes and, it gets worse ,over time . Relaxation in addition to the inner side usually affects in less extent both the external and the lateral thigh. It mainly affects women over 40 years of age as a result of normal body wear, but also of men or women (younger) after massive weight loss.
Thigh lift : Who is the right candidate?
Men and women after weight loss due to either bariatric surgery or diet.
Women with intense relaxation problems and stretch marks.
Thigh lift: Visiting the plastic surgeon
During the visit, the plastic surgeon will appreciate the degree of relaxation and whether liposuction will be required or not. Then will record your history where you will be asked if you are taking any kind of medication , if you have had any previous surgery for any chronic conditions you are concerned with, or allergies you may have. Finally, he will photograph the “problematic” points and discuss thoroughly, with you to make sure that your expectations for the surgery have realistic bases and also to solve all the relevant questions.
Thigh lift: Consultation before surgery
Before surgery, you will need to have usual blood tests, X rays and ECG.
Thigh lift: Analyzing the procedure of the operation
Initially, an incision af the groin is performed. The point is not chosen accidentally but deliberately, so that the incision and the scar is hiding inside the crease and can not be seen when wearing underwear. Then remove the excess skin. Usually liposuction is performed to remove the local fat. If the loose skin is too much , another incision in the inside of the thighs is performed, which reaches up to the knee. The duration of the procedure is 3 hours approximately.
What kind of anesthesia is performed during thighs?
The anesthesia is usually general. Only in cases of mild relaxation, it might be local anesthesia and sedation.
Thigh lift: Possible complications
As with any surgery, as with thigh retraction, some complications may occur. However, this procedure is extremely rare. There may be a hematoma or an infection, but it is completely treated. Complications have been reported to alter the shape of the external genitalia and scar hypertrophy. It is therefore very important to choose a qualified plastic surgeon to minimise the possibility or avoid such complications.
Thigh lift: post-operative image
After surgery, the incision will be covered with gauze, drainage and elastic bandage or other pressure clothing around the surgical site to minimize swelling as quickly as possible. You will feel exhausted as is natural and you will need to stay lying down. The next day you will be discharged and you will return home.
Thigh lift: How will be the scars after surgery?
At first there will be stitches and the scar will show intense redness and swelling. It usually heats within the next 2 to 3 weeks. However, if a second larger incision was needed along the thigh due to intense relaxation, it would take 4 to 5 weeks to heal completely. It is of utmost importance that you follow faithfully the instructions your doctor will give you and be careful with their care. Over time, the scars will become smoother and will be very difficult to perceive.
Thigh lift: The first week
In the first week you will need to take mild analgesics ,(paracetamol) , to relieve post-operative pain. After that, bumps and swelling will almost recede and you will be able to return to work . You should be as relaxed as possible .
Thigh lift: image after suture removal
The sutures are removed 2 weeks after surgery. Swelling and bruising until then will have subsided completely, if not then you should pay close attention and limit your activity. Although the feeling of tiredness has subsided, vigorous exercise should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
Thigh lift: When the results are visible and how long do they last?
The definitive results from the leg lift are visible after about 3 months. They are long-lasting as long as your weight is maintained and does not show great variations. With the surgery the area regains its firmness, a renewed look is gained, and your self-confidence is enhanced.
